Our Challenge
Our Invitation
To You
The Challenge
You don’t need us to tell you that we live in tough times. Gridlock in Washington. Ideological divisions. Unsolved problems.
And the Polls Don’t Lie
Most of us are convinced that there is little or nothing that average Americans like ourselves can do about our problems.
“They” won’t listen.
Politics has become a four-letter word.
Some experts even talk about a crisis of loneliness.
But Maybe—Just Maybe—The Polls and the Experts are Wrong
Don’t despair.
What peacebuilders have learned around the world andthe history of our own country both tell us that things don’t have to be this way.
In places as different as South Africa, Northern Ireland, East Timor, and the Western Sahara people have tackled problems that are at least as severe and divisive as those we face in this century’s version of the Roaring Twenties.
Americans, too, have met crisis after crisis. Just think about how we have kept expanding the meaning of one of those phrases that our Founders based our country on—all men are created equal.
Paradigm Shifts are Possible
The term paradigm shift was first used to describe major shifts in the way scientists reached new understanding of big, previously unanswerable problems like the movement of moons, planets, and stars in space.
Now, it has entered everyday conversation to reflect massive changes in the way we run our lives. Not always for the good. But in profound ways. Just think about how the Internet or the smart phone have changed our lives.
Peacebuilding Starts at Home is based on two overlapping assumptions. Such a paradigm shift is possible in the way Americans deal with their problems and with each other. But it is only possible if people like you do your part.
And we do mean you.
Which is Why We Love Derek Sivers—And You Should, Too
You may not identify with the dancers (if that’s the right word to describe what they are doing) in Derek Sivers’ video, and you definitely don’t have to be the crazy guy who dances first. But you do have to find your place until we get to the point at which the video ends and just about everyone has joined “the dance.”
We don’t need you to be that first dancer.
Thousands of American are already doing that.
We need you to join the party.
We will also help you get there.
